Five Star General is a turn-based, hexagonal strategy game for the iPhone. The goal is to conquer all the opposing team's military camps, while defending your own.

I began by designing the 7 terrain tiles - military base, grassland, mountains, desert, swamp, forest and water. I sample photographic images for most of them. I created the military base in 3ds Max first with simple 3D models. I made sure that every terrain tile was significantly distinct in both texture and color.

Next, I designed the 13 military units. I created the units at a much larger size, so I could add more detail in. The three foot units were made from scratch - light infantry, heavy infantry and guerrilla. Tthe other ten vehicle units were first produced in 3D - hummer, helicopter, multiple rocket launcher vehicle, light artillery, heavy artillery, amphibious tank, medium tank, large tank, anti-tank missile vehicle, and anti-air vehicle. I did some basic modeling in 3ds Max to get the overall shape and key details for each unit. I then exported a render of each unit as a targa and brought them into photoshop. I added the red acccent color and camoflauge overlays. I then gave all the key lines a black stoke. I then scaled each down to actual size, before exporting.

The splash screen is the final asset I produced. I used three of the vehicle models for this scene. I also created a hexagon field in 3dsmax for the background. I used the same techniques as above, but with more detail. I also created the title graphic for the game and the iPhone icon.
